In previous issues of the Journal the following appeal for active participation by readers was made.
The objective of the Journal is to provide a forum for the airing of views and for discussion on all matters pertaining to town and regional planning. Although past contributions have tended to come from academics and researchers and hence favoured the more theoretical or academic side of planning, which we naturally shall still encourage, I would however like to appeal to practitioners to participate more actively by publishing that wealth of valuable practical information and experience which is as yet largely untapped. The value of an article is not in its length but in its content and I would therefore ask practitioners to submit material, whether in the form of short articles or even notes based on their practical experience, for inclusion in the Journal. In this way the base of the Journal will he broadened and practitioners and academics alike will reap the benefits.
As the Journal now enjoys the support of the SAITRP I would like to appeal once more to all of you to submit material for publication in your Journal. In order to encourage a measure of reaction, on matters of concern to the profession, a new section under the heading "Viewpoint" is featured in this and the previous editions and I trust that the opinions expressed by the Theunissens and Bertie van Zyl will provide that necessary spark to initiate a lively debate, focussing attention on the role, function and prospects of our profession. Please accept this as an open invitation. We look forward to hearing your views.
