Abstract

From text: What do I mean by non-governmental initiatives? International trade can be facilitated, broadly speaking, in two different manners. Governments can in negotiation with the governments of their trading partners try to remove trade barriers. This is what I would term governmental initiatives to facilitate trade. However, trade can also be facilitated by the harmonization of the law regulating trade. There are various harmonization techniques, some of which require no participation from government, whilst others require government participation only in the form of legislation.
