Abstract

In this article Popper's science philosphy and its bearing on his views on open and closed societies are briefly discussed. This is followed by gauging the post-1994 political dispensation in South Africa against Popper's criteria concerning the openness and closeness of societies. Finally the author reflects on the question whether the practice of governance in South Africa leads - or has led - to a new closeness in society.
