Abstract

During the prelude to the war in South Africa the United States of America tried to stay neutral As the war approached it became clear that the American government's unofficial support was with England although officially they still announced neutcality. As the war in South Africa continued beyond the duration that everybody believed it would, a number of incidents occurred that made the Boers to believe that the USA were violating their official neutcality and that they were beginning to support England actively. This led to efforts by the Boers to get
America to stop supporting England and also to get the USA actively involved in bringing the war to an end.
