Abstract

This article intends to make a contribution to resolving the current dispute on the roles of the institution of traditional leadership at local government level in the present dispensation in South Africa. In a subtle manner the article pins the dispute to the binary way of understanding that promotes Eurocentricity at the expense of Afrocentricity. In order for this to be observed, a backward-forvard journey into the institution of traditional leadership will be taken.
