Life on the Border: A socio/historic study of the members of the South African Air Force during the "Bush War", 1966-1989

Abstract

The South African Air Force had participated in the "Bushwar/Border War" way before the first shots were fired at Ungulumbushe in 1966 until the last personnel and freight were flown out of Namibia in 1989.1 This article deals with the manner in which the individual lived during the more than two decades in which the Air Force was directly involved in the military activity in this specific region. It is to be noted that this was never a declared war, but in the eyes of the South African Air Force that participated, it was a full-scale war.
