Abstract

The hypothesis that needs to be answered, is how the Afrikaner succeeded in emerging as victorious from an apparently hopeless position at the end of the Anglo-Boer War. The Afrikaner was not only financially and spiritually impoverished but also had to tackle the aftermath of the war under Milner's watchfal eye. A variety of factors, including an upsurge of nationalism, lessons from the international arena, solidarity and the advancement of his language and culture, stimulated the Afrikaner in raising himself to new heights.
