Abstract

The conventional stormwater management practice has often created more problems than it has solved. This has led to the development and application of the new technology known as 'stormwater management'. The new practice enjoys an increasing degree of acceptance and the principles are incorporated into the proposed "Guidelines for the provision of Engineering Services in Residential Village Areas". This article outlines some of the broad principles and gives examples of their application. The fact that stormwater control should be regarded as an integrated part of the planning process and not as an isolated activity has been emphasized.
